AHA COURSES

• AHA students attend all English, History, Science and Visual and Performing Arts classes within AHA. This year we are including Math in the 9th grade and will add on each year until math is fully incorporated into AHA. AHA Math is the Interactive Mathematics Program (IMP). The IMP curriculum integrates traditional material with additional topics recommended by the NCTM Standards, such as statistics, probability, curve fitting, and matrix algebra. IMP units are generally structured around a complex central problem. Although each unit has a specific mathematical focus, other topics are brought in as needed to solve the central problem, rather than narrowly restricting the mathematical content. Ideas that are developed in one unit are usually revisited and deepened in one or more later units.
• AHA students can choose from the wide variety of courses in the large school World Language and the part of their Physical Education requirements not covered by Performing Arts classes.
• All AHA Freshmen & Sophomores are enrolled in The Arts Wheel, a sequence of visual and performing arts classes designed to give students a thorough introduction to all the arts disciplines.
• Included in The Arts Wheel is a selection of:
  • Painting & Drawing
  • Spoken Word
  • Ceramics
  • Afro-Haitian and Modern Dance
  • Photography
  • Theater
  • Sculpture/Printmaking
• As juniors and seniors, students select an artistic area of specialization. Students are expected to enroll in the highest level classes in their area of specialization. These courses include:
  • Advanced Placement Visual Arts
  • Advanced Theater Projects
  • Dance Production
  • Advanced Afro-Haitian
  • Advanced Photography
  • Orchestra-Band
  • Jazz Ensemble
